The Department of Legal Studies at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, seeks applicants with a JD, license to practice law, and three+ years of experience practicing law for a tenure-track faculty position in Legal Studies. We particularly welcome candidates with an expertise and scholarly agenda in digital media, intellectual property, e-discovery, or digital information management. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education, excellent teaching skills, willingness to teach and support diverse students, and the ability to develop a productive research program, preferably in one of the areas above. Candidates should be able to teach and develop online and in-person legal courses across a range of undergraduate and graduate offerings, including Law Office Technology, Legal Research and Writing, and Litigation. Hamline faculty have a 6-course annual teaching load, with a course release in the first year for professional development and semester pre-tenure release pending successful third-year review.
The Legal Studies Department within Hamline’s College of Liberal Arts, combines a broad interdisciplinary focus with a depth of pre-professional skills needed to work in a variety of law-related fields. We facilitate a nationally recognized Mock Trial team and a Law and Justice Society, both of which welcome students from all disciplines at the University. Faculty engage in numerous interdisciplinary collaborations, notably with the Women’s Studies program in our distinctive Legal Studies and Women’s Studies double major and with the vibrant Hamline University Center for Justice and Lawon a variety ofinitiatives.

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
License to practice law (any state acceptable)
3 or more years of experience practicing law
Experience working as a paralegal or supervising paralegals in a team environment
Teaching experience in a paralegal, legal studies, or law school setting
Familiarity and comfort with learning management systems, e.g. Blackboard and Moodle (Learning House)
